Anglican Church music is steeped in history. Its roots are based in the Catholic tradition but, with the English Reformation, a new and unique style of sacred music began to emerge with many famous English composers contributing to this genre of church music. In keeping with this traditional ethos, St. Andrew’s Adult and Children’s choirs sing traditional sacred choral literature ranging from Gregorian chants, Anglican chants, music of the English and Lutheran Reformation, the Wesley family, and famous English composers.
In addition to singing anthems for Sunday services the Adult Choir leads the congregation each Sunday in the liturgy, sings Choral Evensong on the first Wednesday night of the month from September to May, Thanksgiving Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday services and Good Friday Meditation Service.
The Adult Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 8:50 to 10:00 A.M. prior to the Sunday Eucharist. Admission to the Adult Choir is at the discretion of the choirmaster.
The Children’s Choir sings once a month. Rehearsal time for Children’s Choir is on Wednesday nights following Evening Prayer.
